Northrop gets $30M contract for 'space fence' development - Kansas City Business Journal:

The new Space Fence is part ofthe U.S. Departmengt of Defense's effort to continually track and detect objects such as spacs debris and satellites in low and mediumearthg orbit. Space Fence will replace the currenft VHF Air Force Space Surveillance Systekm builtin 1961. "The new Space Fence system will provide better accuracy and faster detection while allowinf us to increase the number of satellites and other spacr objects that can be detectedand tracked, thus avoiding collision and damages to other satellites," Rich Davis, director of special projectss at Northrop Grumman's Advanced Concepts and Technology said in a statement.
Australia is a candidate for the first SpaceFence location. Two additional sites in othe r parts of the world are alsoundeer consideration. Los Angeles-based Northrop NOC) is a defense and technologt company.
