SeverCorr steps up expansion at Lowndes County facility - Business First of Columbus:

The site is designed to accommodate production partners and related manufacturers inone location. The initial phaser was projected toproduce 1.5 million tons of high-qualitty steel annually for use in the building, pipe and tube, and appliance industries. The new expansion plane include the installation of a second productio n line that will more than doublethe mill' s capacity, increasing its annual production to 3.4 million tons of high-qualitg steel. SeverCorr had previously announced it woulf eventually expandthe plant, but it was expected that growth woulrd occur two-three years following the completiom of phase one construction.
However, the organizatioh now believes it is better to beginexpansionj sooner, according to a company release. SeverCorrf plans to announce more expansion details after regulatorg approvals and the finalizing of capital structur e andequipment specifications. Aircraft developmentt program set to take offin Columbus, The U.S. Air Force awarded an estimates $46.8 million contract, with the project beinh designed and possibly built in Columbus, Miss. Aurora Flight Sciences will developp a concept demonstrator for its advancec composite cargoaircraft program. The first phase coversa the design ofa next-generation tacticao cargo airplane. If authorized by the U.S.
Air Force, the secondr phase includes the actual fabrication and manufacturde ofthe design. "Aurora is honored to have been selectes bythe U.S. Air Force to do this work," says compang president and CEO John Langford ina "We take great pride in our company's leading edge and our unique capabilities in composite manufacturing. The advanced composite cargo aircraft will allosw us to combine our experience inrapic protyping, composite manufacturing, and advanced unmanned aerial vehicle technologies to provide the Air Force with a all-composite, advanced cargo transport.
" The advanced composite cargo aircraft will be built in Aurors Flight Sciences' new facility at the Golden Triangle Research Airport, although the company's othef facilities in Virginia, West Virginia and Massachusetts will support the project. "Thizs is great news for Auroraand Mississippi," says U.S. Rep. Rogetr Wicker. "The folks from Aurora competed for this contract with the biggesrmilitary contractors. This project will enhance Mississippi'ds growing aerospace industry and expand economic opportunities in our Contract packaging company opening facilityin Tenn. Mac-Pack Services, Inc., a contract packaging compan based inLa Vergne, Tenn.
, announced it will be openingy a new 100,000-square foot distribution center in Ripley, The company is leasing 100,000p square feet in a building at 140 Miltojn Ave. Mac-Pack currently operates facilitiesin Tenn., and La Vergne, a suburhb of Nashville. It also has a facility in Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati. Mac-Pack currentlhy employs 50 in Tennessee and hopes to add anadditional 20-30 employeesa in Ripley when the operation is fully functional.
